Delta College Police Academy is hosting BAF-Fortitude’s “21st Century Community Policing and Cultural Competency” Course on October 20-21, 2021

Fact:  Several high-profile incidents where complaints of the use of excessive force against individuals and subsequent backlash in the form of civil unrest are resulting in a loss of trust, lawsuits, and loss of life.  The thought that these issues are BIG City concerns and can’t happen in your jurisdiction is like buying a first-class discount ticket on the Titanic—great feeling, great view, but the voyage will end badly.  The evidence is undeniable.  Officer misconduct is a real issue in every jurisdiction across the nation.

Seminar:  This is a two-day engagement.  It will include Procedural Justice topics such as Changing Mindsets using 21st Century Policing Concepts, Unconscious Biases, Policing Principles, Rules of Engagement/De-Escalation, and Crisis Intervention.  The course will then turn attention to the topic of Police Legitimacy.  Several of the topics covered will include the importance of Values, emphasizing the Four Principles of Just Behavior, Authority and Power, Police Leadership, and Level Four Communications.  Finally, and the key to the course is the issue of Cultural Competency.  In subjects discussed, we include Racial Profiling, Social Landscape, Rules of Poverty, Transparency, and Levels of Cultural Competency to name a few.

Why This Course? Here is what they are saying about the course: “Excellent, Warrior versus Guardian is a point that hit’s home for policing hard.  Chief D. Brown. WCAA PD, Michigan; “Excellent training with modern insights relating to cultural diversity for public safety professionals.  Sheriff R. McCabe, Norfolk, Virginia; and “I personally want to thank them for helping my police officers and leaders embrace the elements found in the President’s Report on 21st Century Policing.  Chief C. Heberer, Fountain, Colorado.  There is no shortage of Law Enforcement courses online or live.  This course is unique and addresses the “new normal” of Law Enforcement!  This course is about CHANGING MINDSET.  It is about not stepping on an unseen landmine, which will be devastating to a police or sheriff’s department.  It is the ONLY course of its type.  This course goes into areas such as Changing Mindset, How to Build Trust, The Importance of Values, The Rules of Poverty, Guardian Vs.
