No longer can we overlook the need to enhance personal situational awareness and personal protection measures. The uptick of hostile attacks in the US and abroad has caused me to believe these and other types of attacks will continue to grow; we can help to do something about it.
As business owners, we are responsible for ensuring a safe and work-friendly environment for our employees. Here is an opportunity to invest in employees’ personal safety thereby improving the overall workplace security posture. For small business with 100 employees or less, improved security needs to be a priority because most of these types of businesses do not have adequate security measures in place to protect their employees. One way that small businesses can mitigate or prevent a criminal or terrorist attack against their employees is by instituting a Workplace Protection Initiative.
How To Equip Your Employees To Be The First-Line of Security Defense
Why would training a secretary or administrative assistant be so critical? In most cases, they are the first-line of security for a small business. Training your support staff in personal situational awareness and personal protection measures is a great first step to protecting employees.
We must invest in adequate, but effective security for the safety of employees. At a minimum, I recommend organizations and businesses get a security expert to conduct an initial assessment to provide feedback on existing security procedures. Let us look forward to reading and hearing good news stories that an attack or incident against an employee in the workplace did not happen or was mitigated by an effective Workplace Protection Initiative.
